Hastings & St. Leonards Angling Association

Probably the top sea angling club in East Sussex

Visitors, Visiting Clubs, Coach Parties and Associations Welcome

Hastings & St. Leonards Angling Association was founded in 1895 as a freshwater angling club. In 1904 a sea angling branch was formed and the two branches ran in parallel for a number of years. The subsequent history of the freshwater branch is not known but the sea angling branch became the current club. For many years the club was based at 3 Marine Parade (across the road!) and in 1978 it moved into its present headquarters on the beach. Since then the clubhouse has been extended and extensively refurbished.

The Club House is a comfortable place to sit and relax, with access for wheelchair users throughout. We have a Tea Bar and also Happy Hours at the bar from 12.30 to 1.30pm Monday to Friday, and 5pm to 6pm on Fridays. Our bar prices are exceptionally reasonable!

The total membership of the club, including social members, is approx. 700 and we have regular social events ranging from race nights to Ascot Ladies Day, as well as local Angling competitions. New members are always welcome and you can pick up a membership application from the bar or go to the Membership Details tab where they can be downloaded.

Organised beach and boat angling competitions between members and other associations are held throughout the year and there is a varied social calendar with events and entertainment. The club also owns a number of small boats and these are available for members to hire on a daily basis. The Association is also affiliated to the British Conger club, and is pleased to welcome visiting associations.

The Club is situated on the promenade, which is flat all the way from Rock a Nore in the east to the Pier in the west. In the historic fishing area along Rock a Nore there is Blue Reef Aquarium, Shipwreck Museum and the Fishermen's Museum, along with wet fish shops who will keep your fish for you until you go home. In George Street and High Street, which are just across the road from the Club, you will find quirky shops selling all manner of things! 10 minutes walk away is Hastings town centre. And if you fancy a bit of a climb, there are the Smugglers Caves in the cliffs or you could use one of the two funicular railways to get to the top of the East or the West Hill for spectacular views. The club is situated right on the seafront main A259 road so your coach can easily drop you off and pick you up at the designated coach stops.

The club is all on one level for easy disabled access and also has a disabled toilet.

The licensed bar is open from 11 am every day and the food bar is open from 7am to 2pm every day except Mondays.

If you are visiting Hastings for the day, why not make us your base.

Just contact the club in advance of your visit to make the booking, although we can usually take up to 30 visitors unannounced!
